Hall 1: The hall of excellence and enterprise

In this hall SOFII features a range of showcases that cover truly outstanding individuals, organisations, campaigns and promotions from the colourful world of fundraising. If you are searching for the cream, you’ve just found it. Some of the exhibits here are older than dirt and quite a few are weird and wacky as well as wonderful, but in their time and their unique way all have aspired to push forward the boundaries of fundraising. You can judge for yourself how successful they have been. And might still be, if carefully adapted.

The ‘best of the best’ showcase

Many times we’ve been asked ‘How do I find the very best of SOFII’s exhibits?’ So look no further, the best of the best are right here. This section honours fundraisers who have really made a difference by creating campaigns that have changed the way we do what we do. If you know of a fundraising promotion or campaign that really was an industry game-changer, please submit it today to be considered for a place amongst the best of the best.

The great and the good showcase

iconWelcome to SOFII’s special, most reverent, most silent hall, wherein we display for the edification and enlightenment of all who care to enter profiles of those rare individuals, living and otherwise, whom we have selected as fundraising’s great and good. These people, whose lives and contributions are unveiled here, have all made a recognised, substantial contribution to our field. We should all aspire to understand and learn from their legacy.

Most inspirational fundraising of all time showcase

Be inspired by the exhibits in this showcase. You will see a variety of donor communications. Despite their differences, they all managed to be easily accessible, transparent, informative and exciting to their audience. No mean feat, we’re sure you’ll agree. Tour this showcase now.

Fine writing for fundraising

Fine writing makes the heart soar. It moves people, to applause and acclaim of course but more importantly for fundraisers and campaigners, to take action, to get involved, to give, to change the world. Fine writing is rare in fundraising but not so rare that SOFII can’t collect the best of it and display it for you here in one easy accessible place. Its purpose is to delight you and inspire you to aspire to the highest possible quality of the written word in all your output. The poet John Donne said, ‘That which is written with ease is usually read with difficulty’. The writer George Orwell said, ‘All writers are vain, selfish, and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives there lies a mystery. Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist or understand.’.

All our yesterdays: the fundraising archive showcase

iconFundraising has been around ever since people started to help each other. So examples of inspirational, instructive and innovative fundraising inevitably go back many centuries. But our records and record-keeping have not been all they should be. In this section SOFII aspires to display and describe the history of fundraising.

  • Treasures from the twentieth century
  • Wonders from history
  • The second oldest profession: fundraising from the dawn of time
