APRIL 2013

Some of these wonderful ideas that your fellow fundraisers wish they’d thought of might make you laugh, some might surprise you, some might even make you cry. They will all inspire you.

What follows are links to 17 fundraising greats, 17 of the big ideas that were in the first I Wish I’d Thought of That mega-event in London last year, at which young fundraisers described and illustrated a cornucopia of big ideas so good that they wish they’d had them, themselves.

Enjoy!

A fundraising ‘product’ is a clearly defined and readily understood scheme or plan that donors can subscribe to or join. There is usually a fixed entry price or range of prices, often monthly. In return for this donors will receive clearly described benefits, even if these are intangible or (as is often the case) are enjoyed by a third party. Child sponsorship is considered by many to be the classic fundraising product. But as SOFII users show here, there are lots of other great products that work well and are worth borrowing.

Dogs Trust sponsor a dog.

The Shires of Wood Green.

Book Aid International: the Reverse Book Club.

UNICEF Pigotta project: adopt a doll and save a life.

Friends of the Earth: carbon calculator.

Feed the Children’s ‘baby box’.

Plan: the launch of child sponsorship, Spain 1937.

ActionAid’s welcome to child sponsorship package.

Greenpeace Frontline.

Steel Yard fund a day appeal.

I Can: the adopt a word campaign.

Cure Cancer Australia: ‘can too’ sporting event.

Mith samlanh Camodia the ‘buy a brick’ land campaign.

Strømme Foundation: ‘poverty buster’ (‘fattigdomsbekjemper’).

Centrepoint ‘sponsor a room’: donor acquisition by press advertising, with TV and direct mail too.

Médecins sans Frontières: ‘field partners’.

United Way impact calculator.

Albert Street Methodist Sunday School: the foot of pennies from the 1930s.

There’s a new find today on SOFII, a letter sent with the famous Amnesty pen pack, but only to women*. This, SOFII believes, is a real star; one of the most powerful and best-written fundraising letters ever. It pulls no punches – these are true stories of the brutality inflicted on men, women and children all over the world. You might gasp, you might cry, you should get angry… like all those who responded to its powerful message.

So to celebrate this find and fine writing generally SOFII announces the setting up of a new showcase of fine writing on SOFII. Find links below to some of the first candidates, already on SOFII.
